ARGYLE HAND POCKET SHIRT IN DOUBLE INDIGO COTTON TOTE CLOTH
-
Details
An argyle is a weaving or knitting pattern composed of diamond shapes, often interlocking with thinner diagonal checks. The Argyle Hand Pocket Shirt is based on the Millwheel Shirt, with diagonally angled square hand-warmer pockets forming an argyle pattern at the bottoms of the front panels. Argyles are a loose adaptation of the Clan Campbell tartan from Argyle in the West of Scotland, and were popularized in the early Twentieth Century by the Duke of Windsor.
Tote cloth is a simple, loosely woven midweight cotton plain cloth, usually intended to be cut into promotional tote bags. The surface of the textile crinkles and softens as it is washed and worn. This version is woven in England from a Japanese rope-dyed indigo warp and weft. It is the purest expression of the indigo yarn used for Tender’s denim, showing up its deep tones from purple to turquoise.
Tender’s designer William Kroll puts a lot of care into their research, design, manufacture, and wear. Just as a gardener tends to a vegetable patch, or a shepherd is the tender to a flock of sheep, Tender has the hope that it's customers will live with their products, wearing them hard, but respecting their provenance and the stories they have to tell. The British-made clothes and accessories are manufactured in small factories, ateliers, and homes around the country, exploring new approaches to traditional weaving, making, tanning, and dyeing.
